Brief Summary
Blue Ventures, an award-winning UK-based marine conservation organisation currently has a vacancy for the position of Expedition Manager to lead its marine conservation Expedition program in Andavadoaka, southwest Madagascar. The position is paid, and for a period of 12 months.
The primary role of the Expedition Manager involves leading a team of up to 40 staff and volunteers, representing Blue Ventures' interests in Andavadoaka, and directing the efficient day to day running of the Expedition and research camp in the remote village of Andavadoaka.
The successful applicant must have good physical fitness, a strong command of French, experience of managing a large budget, experience of living and working in the developing world, and the motivation and enthusiasm required to work long hours in a challenging and extremely remote tropical environment.
Successful expedition management requires excellent communication, leadership, diplomatic and interpersonal skills. In addition, the chosen applicant must have the initiative to develop innovate solutions to the variety of complex logistical and managerial problems that will present themselves during the course of the position. Fundamental to the position are an ability to anticipate problems before they arise and to react quickly and efficiently under pressure.
Applicants will be qualified to PADI Dive Master level or equivalent, with a keen interest in marine biology, conservation and sustainable development. The position will include an initial 6-week in-field training period, which will give the successful applicant time to familiarise his or herself with the workings of the site.
