He has worked as a medical officer on several reef conservation expeditions, including Coral Cay Conservation and Durham University, before starting work as medical advisor to Blue Ventures.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, lecturer at the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry on diving physiology, and medical advisor to the Durham University Coral Awareness and Research Expedition team.
Having founded the first family planning clinic in August 2007, his vision and strong commitment led to a rapidly expanding, comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health Program, reaching up to 24 villages in some of the remotest regions of the world.
Vik has extensive knowledge of expedition and dive medicine.

- Qualified in basic life support, advanced life support, and advanced paediatric life support (including paediatric trauma).
- Qualified in high altitude medicine.
- Trained by MERLIN in providing medical relief in emergencies.
- Studied dive medicine and physiology at DDRC under guidance of Dr Phil Bryson.
- Expedition medical officer for Coral Cay Conservation Expedition in the Philippines in 2000.
- Expedition medical officer for Durham University Coral Reef Expedition to the Philippines in 2004.
- Expedition medical officer for Blue Ventures Expedition in Madagascar in 2005.
