Maintirano, Madagascar

Originally from Nosy Be, in the North West of Madagascar, Armel has a biology and environmental background. In 2006, he worked with WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) on a research programme in southern Madagascar focusing on terrestrial tortoise conservation and leading education efforts with local schools. After passing his biodiversity and environment DEA in Toliara in 2008, he worked for nearly 3 years as a consultant in marine conservation around the North West of the country. Especially around Sahamalaza and Nosy Hara marine parks and also Lokobe marine reserve (Nosy Be), monitoring fishing cathces, measuring fishing efforts and looking at mangrove health.

Armel has been based in Maintirano since the end of March 2012, he's furthering his experience of the Malagasy west coast, and is looking forward to learning more about Vezo techniques and helping local people to manage their marine resources.
