Blue Ventures celebrates International Day of Forests 2020

Saturday 21st March marked International Day of Forests 2020, established by the United Nations (UN). As an organisation whose work centres around the natural environment, and with our pioneering Blue Forests programme, we wanted to join in the celebration.

We created a short video to showcase the invaluable role that mangrove forests play, as a home to wildlife, as livelihood support systems for people and as a way to minimise the amount of harmful carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

As the theme for this year proclaims, forests – whatever colour they may be – are simply too precious to lose.

“In the fight against climate change, the mighty mangrove is a powerful ally. If we can preserve the forests that remain, and replant the ones we’ve lost, there could be a chance for us to turn the tide both for these natural life support systems, and for the people that rely on them.”

Watch our film, Tahiry Honko, to learn more about the world’s largest community-led mangrove carbon project which we support in Madagascar.

Meet Lalao Aigrette, the National Blue Forests Programme Lead in Madagascar, in her blog ‘Ten years of wading through mud with BV’, and learn more about our innovative Blue Forests programme.
