Subsistence communities in the Bay of Assassins rely on the mangroves for food, fuel, building materials and erosion control, but overexploitation of these resources will result in a future where none of these services are fulfilled.

The way to prevent this from happening, Lalao believes, is to balance mangrove use and sustainable management.
