Summary

Blue Ventures is seeking an ambitious, enthusiastic Research Assistant to join the team in Sarteneja, Belize. This role involves assisting with conducting social and natural science surveys, data analysis and interpretation, including:

  • Focus groups and interviews with fishers related to lionfish fishing
  • Ecological data collected in Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve
  • Lionfish and coral reef conservation outreach and education programmes.

Details of Role

The Research Assistant will work under the management and guidance of the Country Coordinator, and activities will be carried out in close collaboration with the Lionfish Social Scientist, Field Scientists and Community Officer. The role requires a highly motivated individual with experience in data analysis and management, coordination of community liaison and outreach projects, as well as an interest in fisheries and working with fishers. Experience in social science and/or participatory conservation action planning are desired, and an ability to read, write and converse in both Spanish and English is essential.
