Beandrainy Laurent Rasolofotiana

Fisheries Technician
Belo sur Mer, Madagascar

Laurent was born in the Vezo community of Belo-sur-Mer. He obtained his degree at the ‘Institut Halieutique et des Sciences Marines’ (IHSM) in Toliara, despite the challenging travel and logistics of this venture. It is therefore with great joy and motivation that he can come back to his home village to work with the communities of the area to set in place more sustainable fishing habits and to improve their livelihoods.

He is passionate about management of fisheries and marine ecosystems, and also finds the relationship between the Vezo people and the sea fascinating.

“Their belief of inexhaustible resources from the sea is putting their future at risk. In fact, this resource is depleting, enhanced by external factors such as climate change. I’m aware of the challenge of addressing this vital question but both as part of the Vezo community and as part of the Blue Ventures team, I really want to contribute to the development of a sustainable fisheries with the fishing communities. Work with them to create a better future for them.”
