She was so impressed by BV’s community-centric approach that she returned in 2018 to take on the role as Country Manager. She provides vision and leadership to our growing conservation and ecotourism programmes, thereby expanding the reach and impact of our work. She is an experienced people and programme manager with extensive international experience in government, the NGO and corporate sectors. Along with a big heart for Timor, she brings specialised knowledge in management advice, strategy and policy development, relationship management, research, human-centric design thinking and intercultural communication to this role. Half German/half New Zealand kiwi, Birgit spent the majority of her life overseas including in remote coastal communities in Timor-Leste, the Pacific, Senegal, Mozambique and the Caribbean. She is a keen surfer, free-diver, scuba diver, ultra-marathon runner and yoga instructor, and every now and then can be seen mountain-biking the length of the African continent.
