Elena is the Expeditions Manager at our Andavadoaka site in Madagascar. Born in Spain, she has studied and worked abroad most of her life. With a background in Art and Design, Teacher training, Business Development in EFL Education and qualified in Mountain Leadership, she brings together all these skills and experience to run Expeditions. After running her own expeditions company focused on mountain hiking and wilderness experiences, she became increasingly invested in working with local communities and inspiring others to do so.
Here, in the remote village of Andavadoaka, she focuses on providing an all-encompassing high quality experience for volunteers, one which ensures communities and conservation are at the core, where meaningful learning and teaching is happening on a daily basis so as to build capacity, where each and every volunteer steps out of their comfort zone to share and exchange knowledge and skills, and to enjoy every minute of these incredible six to eight weeks
Together with her Expeditions team, she juggles multiple projects and strives to ensure all of Blue Ventures conservation programmes form an integral and seamless part of the Expeditions. Completely hands-on; from sea cucumber monitoring or mangrove replanting, to teaching English and diving into a homestay at the weekends. It is so far the most exciting, and fulfilling expedition she has ever been involved in.
