Jen Hacking

Blue Forests Madagascar Programme Manager
Toliara, Madagascar

Jen is a Canadian forester who, after completion of an M.Sc. Forestry to complement a B.Sc. (Agriculture), pursued experiences as a silviculture supervisor, forestry instructor, research technician, and management forester. In 2012, she began working in Indonesian tropical ecosystems; with a primate conservation centre in Kalimantan, for a large-scale landscape project in Sumatra and advising on sustainable forestry management planning in Sulawesi. She also worked for a short period in 2015 at Centre ValBio, a lemur research field station in Ranomafana.

Application of forest sustainability principles to different ecosystems is an exciting challenge, particularly with communities that depend on forests for their livelihoods. The opportunity to work with mangroves, which are so complex and critical to both the aquatic and terrestrial environments that they influence, has been one of Jen’s longstanding career objectives. She joined Blue Ventures in January 2017 as the Blue Forests Madagascar Programme Manager.
