Maritza is our Fisheries and Livelihoods Manager in Belize, responsible for leading lionfish fishery development and alternative livelihoods programs. This includes providing support to the Belioness Lionfish jewelry group and working closely with all actors across the lionfish supply chain to drive uptake of this new fishery.
Originally from New York, Maritza has worked in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, with a focus on programme / partnership development, volunteer management, programme management and operations. She has spent the last several years living in Guatemala working as the Director of International Programmes for a service learning organisation, providing support to over 150 community based organisations throughout the country. She has a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from Rollins College and has visited almost every country in the Americas.
Even though she did not learn how to swim until her early 20s, Maritza is an avid surfer and scuba diver and loves living by the sea.
