Peter has had a career in humanitarian aid and the development sector for over 20 years, including work in large scale emergency response teams such as the Asian Tsunami, the earthquake in Haiti and most recently the Ebola outbreak in Liberia. A nurse by trade, Peter has worked in senior management roles for a variety of INGO’s, including Medecin Sans Frontieres, the International Federation of the Red Cross, UNHCR and Save the Children. He’s used to working in complex environments such as South Sudan and DRC and has experience of conflict countries like Burundi and Somalia. Most recently he has been Country Health Director for Merlin in Myanmar, Country Director for BBC Media Action in South Sudan and for the Malaria Consortium, also South Sudan.
In 2016 Peter decided to take a break and pursue his passion so he enrolled at Queens University, Belfast to complete a PGDip in Ecological Management and Conservation Biology.
He describes his role with Blue Ventures as his dream job, combining his professional experience with his personal passion. He also speaks fluent French and is a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. Peter is a huge fan of rugby and follows his native Ireland team when he can. He’s also an experienced skier, loves to travel and is the undisputed king of the BBQ – just ask his wife and kids!
Peter remains a Registered Nurse and has a Masters in The Control of Infectious Disease and a PGDip in Ecological Management and Conservation Biology.
