My time with Blue Ventures has given me new friendships and deeper insight into my own life. The absolute highlight however has been working for a mission-driven organisation that operates at the interface of academia and practical action in close cooperation with the coastal communities it serves.
The thing I appreciate most about working for Blue Ventures is our community-based approach, working very closely with coastal communities and learning from each other. By forging lasting relationships and gaining their trust, I feel that I've been able to make a real difference by supporting them to manage their marine resources sustainably.
The best thing about my job was how varied the work was. It was often pretty intense with a lot of responsibilities, but was impossible to get bored as there wasn't one day the same as the other. Logistics, HR, checking on seaweed farms, meetings with authorities or partners, working on research plans, and travelling on bumpy roads across insanely beautiful landscapes are just a tiny sample of the life of an aquaculture coordinator with BV!
Living in a rural village and working with people from around the world was a fantastic opportunity to learn about other cultures and make new friends. If you are looking for an adventure that will provide you with unparalleled professional advancement, then definitely consider working for Blue Ventures!
Beyond living an incredibly enriching experience through its incomparable lifestyle, unmatchable scenery and unforgettable encounters, working with Blue Ventures showed me how pertinent,
realistic and efficient conservation initiatives can be. In my current role there is little I can't address in light of what BV had me take in hand while in Madagascar.
