Balbine is from the village of Andavadoaka and was trained by Blue Ventures as a community-based distributor (CBD) of contraceptives in 2010. She was promoted to the role of CBD supervisor in 2011, responsible for providing support and mentoring to other CBDs, while continuing to work as a CBD herself, delivering community education and health products within her village.
Balbine was promoted again in April 2013, to become our full-time Safidy programme community organiser. Her responsibilities include assisting with community outreach and CBD training, administration and logistics, data and stock management.
She recently set up a small enterprise selling second-hand clothes, which is dedicated to raising money for emergency medication for women giving birth in Andavadoaka (deliveries at local healthcare facilities are free but women have to pay for any medication they need and often can’t afford this, so that’s why Balbine has taken the initiative to start a little fund for them).
