Locally managed marine areas advisor

Gildas managed our community conservation programmes along Madagascar’s southwest coast for more than seven years, supporting the uptake of community-led temporary octopus fishery closures, overseeing the development of the Velondriake locally managed marine area, and running a social marketing campaign to encourage the elimination of destructive fishing practices. He has represented Blue Ventures at international conferences including the World Conservation Congress in Jeju, South Korea, the World Parks Congress in Sydney, Australia, and gave a keynote speech at the International Marine Protected Areas Congress in Marseilles, France.

Gildas has a law degree from the University of Toliara, and a Masters in Communication from the University of Texas El Paso. Currently based in the UK, he continues to remain actively involved in Blue Ventures’ work, in particular supporting the development of Madagascar’s locally managed marine area network.
