As Blue Ventures’ Outreach Director, Rupert oversees our partner support activities in the western Indian Ocean and Indonesia, leading a growing team of health, fisheries and monitoring & evaluation experts.
Rupert came to Blue Ventures in 2017 with a background in the petrochemical, public service, human rights and conservation sectors.
He has worked for Nobel Peace Prize nominated human rights group Global Witness in two spells, as development coordinator and campaign director for the forests, land and climate strand.
Rupert worked on river and wetland conservation in Australia for twelve years, working inside and outside government. He was part of a campaign that successfully advocated for the return of large parts of Queensland to indigenous tenure. These now cover millions of hectares and come with world-leading conservation safeguards.
Rupert has an MSc in Environmental Studies from Southampton University with a focus on freshwater fisheries.
