COP28, The 2023 United Nations Climate Summit, is a critical moment in the history of climate action.
The science is unequivocal. The world is on the frontline of a climate catastrophe, with temperature records tumbling, and sea levels rising. This meeting must mark a clear turning point, at which governments raise their ambitions for stronger, faster climate actions and make bold commitments to deliver them.
From the science of mangrove blue carbon to the economics of financing climate action, we’ll be at COP28 speaking truth to power, advocating for a fair COP, and raising the profile of community-led, nature-based solutions to the climate emergency.
Find out more about when and where we’ll be speaking, and our key messages for decision makers. For more information, contact us at info@blueventures.org.
Mangroves, seagrasses and salt marshes capture and store staggering amounts of carbon dioxide in natural sinks – known as blue carbon. These habitats are vital to fisheries and marine ecosystems including coral reefs. They are also critically important to coastal people, buttressing shorelines against storm surges and underpinning fishing livelihoods. Protecting and restoring these blue carbon habitats, a natural climate solution, is an affordable way to help avert dangerous climate breakdown. And it is available to us right now.
