“We fish, dive, and glean to make a living. It’s what we think about when we first wake up. And it’s what we dream about when we go to sleep”
– Symphorien Soa, Outreach Media Technician at Blue Ventures Madagascar. A member of the tribe of the Vezo people.
At the UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm-el-Sheikh, we presented this video about indigenous peoples, traditional knowledge, and ocean-climate action.
The short film features Blue Ventures’ Outreach Media Technician, Symphorien Soa. Symphrien introduces the audience to the Vezo people of Madagascar, a tribe whose identity is intrinsically intertwined with the ocean and fishing. He explains how for his work with Blue Ventures he uses a variety of media such as films, music videos, radio shows and presentations to teach coastal communities in Madagascar about traditional Vezo knowledge and sustainably managed marine resources.
