The Blue Ventures Conservation Board of Trustees will have a slightly different make-up when it next meets on 12 November, with chair Fiona Holmes stepping down and respected technologist Dr Maurizio Pilu joining the group.
Long-standing trustee Peter Everett will act as interim chair until a permanent replacement is appointed.
Fiona Holmes who joined Blue Ventures in January 2022 said the experience of leading the charity would stay with her for a lifetime.
“I will always remember the first time I stood in the ocean with a fisher telling me how Blue Ventures had changed her life. Her story exemplified the commitment and innovative spirit of our team and it was always her picture I looked at when I needed to connect to our purpose and restore my energy.
“It has been a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated and passionate team and I’m truly grateful for the support, hard work and kindness Blue Venture’s people have shown me throughout our time together.”
Interim chair Peter Everett thanked Fiona and said that he is looking forward to the chance to lead the organisation.
“I feel honoured to have been appointed interim chair of BVC Board of trustees. Our new 2030 strategy is bold and ambitious with practical plans to drive positive impact in community-led marine conservation.
“The board would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Fiona for her dedication and leadership as chair over the past three years – her commitment to our mission has been unwavering. It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside her, and we wish her the very best.
“Blue Ventures has exciting years ahead of it. Our mission and strategy remain absolutely clear and will continue to be driven by our capable Chief Executive Officer and his team with the support of trustees.”
We are delighted to add that Dr Maurizio Pilu has also been appointed to the board and will guide the organisation’s digital transformation roadmap. Dr Pilu is a digital technology and innovation leader with over 30 years of experience delivering transformation and impact across industry, technology, and the non-profit sector.
