In an interview for Forbes facilitated by Ashoka’s Pip Wheaton, Blue Ventures’ Executive Director, Alasdair Harris, discusses Blue Ventures’ rights-based approach to marine conservation, one that celebrates the communities who live on the frontlines of the climate crisis and empowers them to take conservation into their own hands. Through the use of data and community governance, Alasdair describes how Blue Ventures is working to scale-up locally led conservation:
“One community acting alone can develop a model and a lot of learning, but when those communities start to interact with one another, they accelerate what they’re doing at a much greater scale. They also have a much more powerful political voice and opportunity to influence the narrative around fishing, human rights, conservation, and the blue economy.”
