A brand new book has just been published: The New Natural History of Madagascar. It is a fully revised and expanded version of its predecessor, The Natural History of Madagascar, and features contributions by more than 600 experts on the history of scientific exploration in Madagascar, geology and soils, climate, forest ecology, human ecology, marine and coastal ecosystems, plants, invertebrates, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. The book also discusses conservation work in Madagascar, including some of the work we are supporting on locally managed marine areas (LMMAs), seagrass, and mangroves.
Co-authors include several members of the Blue Ventures team: Tahiry Randrianjafimanana, Lalao Aigrette, Ismaël Ratefinjanahary, Jaona Ravelonjatovo, Charlie Gough, Abigail Leadbeater, and Jenny Oates. They all contributed to the chapter on Marine and Coastal Ecosystems.
A massive amount of work and perseverance went into this incredibly comprehensive resource that is now ready for all the world to see and help everyone discover the unique nature of Madagascar.
