Blue Ventures has appointed three new trustees to its Board, reinforcing the leadership and oversight guiding the organisation through the next phase of its 2030 strategy.
As Blue Ventures works to deepen community-led fisheries management, influence policy, and strengthen locally led conservation at scale, effective governance is central to delivery. These appointments reflect careful succession planning and the continued evolution of the Board to match the organisation’s ambition, footprint and responsibility.
Sam Stephens – Chair

Sam Stephens joined the Board in December 2025 and has served as Chair since 11 February 2026. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience in governance, long-term strategy, and scaling impact, he ensures the Board provides clear direction, constructive challenge, and robust oversight, supporting Blue Ventures as it delivers its long-term goals.
Karen Fooks – Chair, People Sub-Committee

Karen Fooks joined the Board on 8 January 2026 and was approved as Chair of the People Sub-Committee on 19 February 2026. With over 30 years of experience in leadership and organisational development, she provides oversight of leadership development, succession planning, executive and trustee recruitment, and organisational culture. Her guidance strengthens internal capability and ensures the organisation has the leadership and structures needed to support coastal communities effectively while delivering its priorities.
Bridget Kennedy – Programme Sub-Committee

Bridget Kennedy joined the Board on 5 February 2026 and serves on the Programme Sub-Committee. With more than 15 years of experience in biodiversity protection, climate resilience, and community-led conservation, she strengthens oversight of Blue Ventures’ programmatic and advocacy work, helping ensure priorities are evidence-based, aligned with community needs, and deliver measurable impact.
Blue Ventures’ Board now comprises 11 trustees, combining longstanding institutional knowledge with complementary expertise. Together, they provide stewardship of the organisation’s mission and ensure accountability for the resources entrusted to it. Their oversight helps guide long-term priorities and ensures Blue Ventures continues to work with coastal communities effectively and responsibly.
