Lalao Aigrette, Blue Ventures’ Deputy National Blue Forests Programme Lead shared her views with Landscape News in the lead-up to the 2018 Global Landscapes Forum in Nairobi.
In this interview she discusses Blue Ventures’ community-based mangrove restoration work, the challenges she’s encountered, and her hopes for the forum.
What’s your take-home message for readers about mangrove restoration?
Lalao Aigrette: “I would like to highlight the importance of local communities in restoration efforts. I think that if we plan, if we mobilise local communities, and if they understand the importance of the restoration, I’m 100 percent sure that they will make a big effort to restore it. I think that their involvement is the key for successful restoration.”
