Blue Ventures recently contributed to the USAID film “Tasi Ne’ebé Sustenta Ita” (The Sea That Sustains Us). The film celebrates the diversity and beauty in the seas of Timor-Leste, and shows the importance of the marine environment in the everyday lives of Timorese people. It also explores the threats posed by marine plastics and other pollutants, showcasing some of the steps being taken to respond to these issues.
The film features a Blue Ventures marine conservation expedition beach clean, and includes an interview with Meriam Soares – a member of the Ataúro Homestay Association. This Association was established in 2017, with support from Blue Ventures, and means that families can now rely more on ecotourism income as opposed to fishing, and can focus on conserving their ecosystems so that they can be attractive to tourists and more sustainable for the future.
